This article will address some of common difficulties verifying your Social Shares using TapInfluence. As noted in the article, Completing And Verifying Your Assignment there are traditionally (5) steps to take that will allow you to verify your Social Shares.
1. Create the Share on your Social Network.
When you are first creating your Social Share, please ensure that your Share has no limiting constraints. The share will need to be completely Public in order to validate. Limitations and constraints can prevent it from being verified during step 5.
2. Copy the URL for the Post.
It is important that you only copy the URL for the assignment, as this has a unique URL. If you attempt to verify your Timeline or home screen, it will not verify.
To do this, click on the Date associated with the post. You can either:
A. Right click and select Copy Link Address
B. Open the page and copy the URL from the address bar.
3. Select the Appropriate Network
Presently TapInfluence supports (6) Social Networks that you can verify your assignment for (with more in the works!).
4. Paste the URL into the Field.
After you have selected the relevant Icon, the text will change to "Enter the URL of your Social promotion". Paste the previously copied URL into this space.
If you have provided a valid URL, it will show a Verify Icon. Click this button to verify your post.
5. Click On Verify
If the Social Post has verified successfully, it will display the relevant Social Share and the option to add an additional share below:
If you receive an error after clicking on Verify, then your post has not been successfully verified. There are a couple of issues that might be preventing it from verifying successfully.
We are presently in the process of patching an issue where the TapInfluence Platform will not immediately recognize a video post if the URL is directly entered into the platform.
In the short term, if you copy your video post's URL similar to:
and modify it to:
the post will be recognized and verifiable.
Currently the TapInfluence Platform is having difficulty parsing photo shares on Facebook. If you attempt to verify a post and it returns an error about
Discovery did not return type=3&theater
You can remove the last part of the of the URL and the post should verify successfully.
For instance, modifying something from:
Share not set to Public:
One of the most common errors that can occur is when you attempt to verify a Facebook share that is not shared to Public. You might receive an error that states "Discovery did not return Social Network URL..."
It is important that your post is not shared to a select group of friends or has custom settings.
If you do not see a globe next to your post date, then it is not set to Public and our discovery tool will be unable to locate it.
For example, the post below is set to Friends Only.
While the following has Custom settings:
Once I change this to Public it will display the Globe, this is the goal:
A good way to test this in Chrome, is to open an Incognito Window and to paste in your Facebook URL. If you receive a page similar to the one below, then your settings are likely not set to Public.
Attempting to Verify a Mobile Compatible URL:
If you attempt to verify a Social Share using the mobile variant, the discovery tool may encounter difficulties.
If you copy a URL and it looks similar to https://m.facebook.com/ (m. implies the mobile friendly site), please attempt to copy the same URL from your non-mobile device.
Verifying Google Plus:

Please also note that there is a known bug, where verifying a Google Plus share will display the Vine icon.
Verifying a Photo:
On occasionally a similar issue will present when sharing a photo on Facebook.
For instance: if the URL has photo instead of permalink, it might present an issue
